Perry accuses Mercier

Professional poker player Sean Perry has accused several other well-known players of cheating and running an illegal gambling ring.

Gang befriended him and fed him false information

In a series of posts on X, Perry accused Jason Mercier and Dylan Gang of cheating him out of millions of dollars in sports bets. Perry alleged that after being up “a few million” in $100,000-a-game bets vs Mercier, Gang befriended him and fed him false information.

Perry claims that at the same time, Mercier increased his limits to $500,000 per game, and that he was unaware that Gang was Mercier’s partner in the betting operation.

Perry went on to claim Gang was involved in shady activity, accusing him of raking $50k a night in an illegal high-stakes private game. Perry also alleged that there were sex workers at the games. The players would pay for the services of these sex workers during the nights.

Negreanu also attacked

It was not just Mercier and Gang who fell foul of Perry’s accusations, either. Daniel Negreanu also got caught up in the controversy, with a further post calling the legendary player “scum” after he reposted an attack on Perry from Eric Wasserson, but refused to share Perry’s side of the story.

Perry had been publicly threatening to “expose” Mercier for several days, but the six-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner did not respond to any of the threats or accusations. As of the time of publication, both Daniel Negreanu and Dylan Gang also declined to comment publicly on the matter.

offering $69 increments to random accounts who shared the posts

Perry attempted to publicize his tweets by giving away several thousands of dollars to any account that would re-post the series of allegations, offering $69 increments to random accounts who shared the posts.

The last person to get caught up in the storm was Mercier’s wife, Natasha, whom Perry accused of being “just as guilty as him.” Perry even offered to leave her name out of any future allegations in return for proof that she had filed for divorce – an offer that seems highly unlikely to be taken up.

Perry’s chequered past

Perry has been no stranger to controversy himself, and has faced several accusations of cheating in the past. In 2021, fellow pro Dan Colman claims that he cheated him in high-stakes gambling on Daily Fantasy Sports with Sam Soverel. Colman alleged that Perry secretly controlled several accounts on which the wagers were being placed, scamming him out of a seven-figure sum.

Many of Perry’s peers have often moved to distance themselves from him, as well as cast doubt on the veracity of many of his sports wagers. Legendary gambler Tom Hall called him “as sharp as a bowling ball,” while Shaun Deeb also stated Perry was “Not trustworthy for money. There are some people who have told me stories of Sean stiffing them for over seven figures.”
